It is a known fact in Africa that entertainment companies that cut across television and radio broadcast, book and music publishing, awards company and privately set up outlets have at one point or the other tried to organize award ceremonies for the sole purpose of rewarding talents and individuals in the field of music or entertainment in the long run.

However, the entire purpose of owning and promoting a music video awards by Soundcity is to ensure that a divergent arena is used in rewarding artistes in that area of their career. Ultimately, it has now become an annual focus for the music channel to host the event for the large benefit of the continents entertainment sector in that area. This had led us to believe in the question; 'who is better at critiquing videos other than a 24 hour music channel?

Now in its third year, Soundcity Music Video Awards (SMVA) is an award aimed at setting a standard in the industry of music videos in Africa. As a prestigious award, it takes into cognizance all the appropriate elements and forms that make the composition of genuineness in musical value, through music videos without undue favor.

It has become a must have for those who consider their work a form of art.

Soundcity Music Video Awards (SMVA) therefore presents a dedicated effort at appraising the works of music video artistes, producers, directors, editors and all other artistes and professionals in the music video industry, who have worked energetically to merit honor and continue to be the industry's benchmark.

Previous editions of the SMVA featured American hip hop rapper Nas, South African band Freshlyground, Tic Tac from Ghana, Wyre from Kenya, South African hip hop group Jozi, Nigeria's Seun Kuti and American hip hop act Mims.

This year's event is scheduled to hold at the all new Eko Hotel Expo Hall on the 20th of November 2010 with a live broadcast to over 50+ African countries.
