The Federal Government provided N1.5 billion for the overhaul of unit six at the Egbin Power Plant to increase power generation. Prof. Barth Nnaji, the Minister of Power said the approval was in response to a request made by the management of the power station during his nationwide tour of power plants when he assumed office.
Currently, the Egbin Power Station is operating at 80 percent installed capacity. However, after the repairs of its sixth plant, it will put its output at 1320 megawatts.
BusinessNews reports that the minster further disclosed that the FG successfully recovered other abandoned plants that had, in the interim, successfully increased power generation to 4,300MW compared with the figures that oscillated between 3,000MW and 3,200MW watts in the past.
Nnaji said the nation currently has an electricity reserve of 300 megawatts as a result of the recovered power plants.
According to him, the intervention measures have translated into improved power supply in line with the administration’s aspiration of achieving a short-term target of 5,000MW by the end of the year
